This development comes as part of the airport's strategic plan to increase its passenger numbers from the current 12 million to 18 million by 2033, capitalising on the forthcoming HS2 link that offers a mere 37-minute connection time from London to Birmingham.
The launch of the new website for Birmingham Airport coincided with a revamp of the airport, including improvements to check-in, bag-drop and security facilities. It supported one of the major challenges facing airports today: revenue growth.
As a key part of the project, Quba developed an innovative in-airport app style experience, utilising QR codes in the airport, to maintain customer engagement and boost sales. This was in response to the introduction of new airport security screening obligations by the UK government requiring innovative strategies to sustain revenue streams from food and duty-free sales amidst reduced passenger dwell time in the airport.
Quba’s Managing Director, Matthew Williams commented: "Our team at Quba worked diligently to deliver an exceptional web platform within a relatively short timeframe. This new website supports Birmingham Airport’s ambitious plans for significant passenger growth, and we are delighted with the outcome."
Quba's strategic review revealed the need for an innovative technical solution – a headless content management platform. Following a rigorous selection process the market leading platform, Contentful was selected. This modern approach offers several benefits: it provides greater autonomy and flexibility for Birmingham Airport's marketing team, significantly enhances the customer experience, and lays the foundation for future omnichannel content delivery to a variety of smart devices. The website also offers real time fight and weather data along with data capture to Birmingham Airport’s CRM.
The launch of Birmingham Airport's new web platform is poised to set a new benchmark in airport digital services, enhancing the customer journey and showcasing Birmingham Airport's commitment to innovation and excellence in passenger service.
